Corporate Social Responsibility

CuellarStone supports civil society organizations that promote values such as equality, inclusion, respect, teamwork, discipline, and effort. It also has a strong commitment to the inclusion and personal and professional development of people with disabilities.

Safety and Health

Quality is our goal. Safety is our priority. At CuellarStone there is a constant commitment and awareness regarding the safety and health of workers, collaborators, clients and contractors. Our Occupational Risk Protection department regularly reviews and updates regulations, procedures and equipment, ensuring constant maintenance and improvement of working conditions. In this way, efficient operations and workplace safety are made compatible.

Sustainability

The stone manufacturing process requires lower energy consumption than many other materials.

From a sustainability point of view, natural stone is characterized by its durability, lower energy consumption in its production, possibility of reuse and easy disposal as it is an inert waste.

At the CuellarStone factory in Almería, we have a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant that allows us to recycle 100% of the wastewater generated during the stone cutting process. This way, all the water used by the manufacturing machinery is fully recovered and reused without any additional waste.

On the other hand, the environmental benefits obtained thanks to the 300 kW photovoltaic installation of CuellarStone are the following:

– Production of 100% clean energy = 553.46 MWh/year (553,469 kWh/year) x 25 years = 13,836.74 MWh (13,836,740 kWh)
– TOE/year saved = 110.69 (tons of oil equivalent/year) x 25 years = 2,767.35 TOE
– TCO2/year avoided = 448.10 x 25 years = 11,207 tons of CO2
– Equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by 7,470 trees/year x 25 years = 22,415 trees
– Equivalent to the carbon dioxide emitted by 153 cars/year x 25 years = 3,840 cars

Social

CuellarStone is an entity whose values include contributing to social improvement in general and, in particular, to the personal and professional development of people with disabilities in the Almanzora region. Within this framework, CuellarStone has signed an annual collaboration agreement with the Los Carriles Foundation, a non-profit entity chaired by Diego Martínez Cano (president of CuellarStone). On the other hand, CuellarStone is the largest shareholder of the Special Employment Center Artediscap SL This demonstrates through daily work that, in the natural stone sector, as in many other sectors, Special Employment Centers (CEEs) are profitable and also contribute significantly to the integration of people with special needs into society, providing them with stable and fairly paid employment. In this case, they are true artisans of natural stone.

Education

Over the years, we have received visits from students of high schools, primary schools, and universities. During these excursions, we explain the work carried out by an SME like CuellarStone in the world of natural stone, what can be achieved with quality and a pursuit of excellence, how this type of industry operates, the jobs created and needed, the type of training required, the work done in the factory, and so on. In this way, we hope to contribute to clarifying issues, as well as providing new ideas for employment opportunities to the groups that visit us. In April 2013, CuellarStone participated in the event – Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Globalization, by Mr. Diego Martínez Cano, CEO of CuellarStone Arquitectura, and President of the Almería Commerce Chamber – held at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), United States, where CuellarStone spoke about the importance of internationalization in SMEs. Each year we host interns in various fields – International Business, Architecture, etc. – who complete their internships at our company. Here, we strive to ensure they acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for their careers. Our R&D department collaborates with Universities and Technology Centers to develop innovative products and patents that add value to the services and products provided in this natural stone production and installation activity.

Sport

As part of its corporate social responsibility, one of CuellarStone’s major initiatives is its sports program.
We believe that sports bring together and contribute all the benefits and qualities desired in a work team: health, well-being, teamwork, social skills, perseverance, a drive to excel, discipline, efficiency, and much more.

For this reason, we helped found and sponsor the CuellarStone Sports Club – Marble Running Team. Based in the Marble Region of Almería, they practice and promote running and mountain races, both as a competition and a hobby. Since 2016, and for the second consecutive year, they have organized the Macael Marble Trail.

A sporting event that brings together amateur and professional athletes for trail running and racing in the unique landscape of the Macael quarries. Learn more about this project here: http://clubcuellarrunning.es

Since 2017, CuellarStone has supported the Macael Municipal Basketball School. A team of young players whose debut was a resounding success at the Almería Provincial Sports Games.

In the world of football, since 2012, we have been official sponsors of Cantoria FC, which promotes sports practice in the youth, cadet, veterans and senior categories.

In 2012, Diego Martínez Cano – President of CuellarStone – along with Juan Antonio Antolín Cruz, initiated a board agreement with the Los Carriles Foundation, representing the Los Carriles Sports Club – a sports club for people with intellectual disabilities in Macael. Since its founding, this club has received numerous awards at both the Andalusian and national levels.

Likewise, we collaborate annually with different specific sporting events, some of a social nature, such as the Jaime Jiménez Solidarity Race that has been held in Cantoria since 2012.
